Engineered for Performance: Custom Ø30” Industrial Butterfly Valve Built for Steel Mill Demands

When it comes to industrial butterfly valves, the application tells the story.

This Ø30” unit from our 2300 Series wasn’t built to sit on a shelf — it was designed to solve a real problem inside a working steel mill. From airflow velocity and flange compatibility to actuator selection and long-term durability, every detail was engineered with purpose.

A Custom Solution, Not a Catalog Item

This valve is a perfect example of what we mean by real-world engineering. Here’s what went into it:

  • 316 stainless steel body and disc to handle corrosion and heavy use

  • Tadpole seat rated for 6,000 AFPM airflow

  • Fisher 1061-40 actuator, selected for its reliability and tight modulation

  • 125/150 lb ANSI flange drilling for seamless fitment into an existing system

From the outside, it might look like just another industrial butterfly valve. But the performance comes from the decisions you don’t see — how the materials, geometry, and actuation were tailored to meet the actual system requirements.

Why Application Details Matter

Designing a high-performance valve starts with understanding how it’s going to be used.

For this project, we had to account for:

  • High airflow rates and tight shutoff needs

  • Existing automation system integration

  • Flange bolt patterns and installation constraints

  • Long-term thermal and mechanical stress

  • A quick-turnaround production window

Every component — from the seat profile to the actuator mounting — was built with those variables in mind. That’s what separates a reliable industrial butterfly valve from one that causes downtime.

In the Shop: Final Assembly and Actuation

Once assembled, the valve was fully tested in our facility. The actuation was smooth, responsive, and ready to drop into place at the steel plant. We worked closely with the customer to ensure every box was checked before shipment.

“Understanding flow conditions, shutoff pressure, and actuator compatibility is key to delivering a valve that lasts.”

More Than Just a Valve — It’s an Engineered Solution

At Elite Industrial Controls, we don’t push product. We solve problems.

That means every industrial butterfly valve we build is designed for the real-world conditions it’ll face: high velocity, temperature fluctuations, abrasive particles, tight controls, and the pressure to keep production moving.

This project is a reminder that off-the-shelf often falls short — and that when you take the time to engineer the right solution, performance follows.
